Welcome to Admissions

Park View School is a maintained special school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Admission to the school is through the Local Authority (LA) following statutory processes.

Who can attend Park View School

Park View School provides places for pupils:

  • Aged 11–16
  • With an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) identifying SEMH as the primary need
  • Whose needs cannot be met in mainstream provision

How admissions are decided

All admissions are managed by South Tyneside Local Authority. The LA consults with the school before naming Park View School in a pupil’s EHCP.

Consultation processWhen the LA proposes Park View School:

  • The school reviews the pupil’s EHCP
  • Considers whether the school can meet the pupil’s needs
  • Confirms whether a place is available
  • Responds to the LA within statutory timescales

Step 3 – Information Sharing

The previous school provides relevant information to support a smooth transition.

Step 4 – Taster Visits

Most students are offered taster sessions, agreed with:

*What Is an EHCP?

An Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document for children and young people aged 0–25 who need support beyond what a mainstream school can provide. It sets out:

  • Your child’s needs
  • The support they must receive
  • The outcomes they are working towards

Why Is an EHCP Needed for Park View School?

Park View School is a specialist setting. A child can only attend if their EHCP names Park View School. This ensures:

  • The placement is appropriate
  • The school can meet all identified needs
  • Support is in place from day one

How an EHCP Is Created

  1. Assessment requested (by parent, school or professional)
  2. Local authority gathers reports
  3. Draft EHCP shared with parents
  4. Parents give feedback
  5. Final EHCP issued

What’s Inside an EHCP?

  • Your child’s strengths and needs
  • Education, health and care support
  • Short‑ and long‑term outcomes
  • Placement details
  • Review arrangements

Annual Reviews

EHCPs are reviewed every 12 months to check progress and update support. Parents and young people are fully involved.
