Therapeutic Support
At Park View School, we recognise that a child’s emotional and sensory wellbeing is just as important as their academic progress. Our therapeutic provision offers calm, nurturing support to help pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
We are proud to have a dedicated Therapeutic HLTA providing specialised emotional, sensory and touch‑based therapy for pupils with additional needs.
Our Therapeutic HLTA – Kim Scott
As the school’s Therapeutic HLTA, I provide personalised support for pupils experiencing
social, emotional, behavioural or sensory challenges. My work focuses on helping children regulate their emotions, reduce stress and build confidence so they can fully engage in school life.
I am trained in a range of specialist therapeutic approaches, including:
- ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
- SEN Massage Therapy
- Sensory Needs Practice
- Fear‑Less Triple P Practitioner
These qualifications allow me to support pupils with anxiety, anger, autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs and emotional regulation difficulties.
How I Support Pupils
Through calm, structured 1:1 sessions, I help pupils to:
- Build confidence and self‑esteem
- Develop emotional regulation skills
- Understand and manage anxiety
- Form positive relationships
- Learn coping strategies for everyday challenges
- Feel safe, grounded and ready to learn
Our touch therapy uses gentle hand techniques and light finger pressure to help the body relax and rebalance. This stimulates the brain’s natural “feel‑good” chemicals, reducing the fight‑or‑flight response and helping pupils feel calmer and more settled.
Over time, pupils often experience improved mood, reduced frustration and greater comfort in their bodies.
Support for Parents and Carers
Working with families is an important part of our therapeutic approach. I offer guidance and practical support to help parents understand their child’s emotional and sensory needs.
This includes:
- Parenting programmes to help manage children’s anxiety
- Strategies for supporting emotional regulation at home
- Advice on sensory needs and behaviour
- Helping families build positive routines and communication
This joined‑up approach ensures consistency and security for our learners, echoing the family‑focused support described on the Mental Health page .
Our Aim
Through therapeutic support, we help pupils to:
- Feel valued and understood
- Build resilience and independence
- Develop healthy coping strategies
- Re‑engage positively with learning
- Thrive both in school and beyond
Every child deserves to feel emotionally secure, supported and capable — and our therapeutic provision is here to make that happen.
