At Park View School’s Vocational Centre, pupils have the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on skills in real trade areas. These courses help students build confidence, develop employability skills and explore future career pathways. All qualifications are delivered through City & Guilds, a nationally recognised awarding body.
Welding Skills (City & Guilds 3268)
Our Welding Skills programme introduces students to the basics of welding and metalwork. It is ideal for learners who are new to welding and want to develop practical skills that can lead to further training or employment in engineering and fabrication.
Students can work towards Level 1 qualifications in a range of welding methods, including:
- City & Guilds Level 1 course 3268-13 which is MIG (Metal Inert Gas welding)
- City & Guilds Level 1 course 3268-10 which is MMA (Manual Metal Arc)
- City & Guilds Level 1 course 3268-12 which is TIG (Tungston Inert Gas)
- City & Guilds Level 1 course 3268-17 which is MMA or TiG (Manual Metal Arc – Tungston inert Gas) welding and MIG (Metal Inert Gas welding)
These courses teach safe working practices, basic welding techniques and how to use industry-standard equipment.
Construction Skills (6219)
These qualifications provide the ideal introduction to the construction industry and cover essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.
The phases cover the following trade areas:
Phase 1: Generic Units, Bricklaying, Joinery
Phase 2: Wall & Floor Tiling, Construction, Operations, Painting & Decorating
Phase 3: Carpentry
Phase 4: Plastering, Plumbing, Electrical
These qualifications are suitable for 14-19 year olds, or for individuals of any age wanting an introduction to the variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade is the right one to pursue a career in. No previous knowledge or experience is required.

Introductory qualifications in Vehicle Systems, Body and Paint Maintenance and Cycle Mechanics (3902)
Learn the basics of repairing or refinishing any type of vehicles with these introductory vehicle systems, body and paint maintenance and cycle mechanics qualifications.
You’ll learn the basic skills you need to enrol in more advanced qualifications, and then get a job in a garage or body shop. You’ll learn skills in your choice of vehicle maintenance, body repair or refinishing.
These introductory automotive qualifications are for anyone interested in a career repairing or refinishing a wide range of vehicles: cars, vans, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, quads, land-based tractors, cycles, etc.
