This week’s mentor session and assembly theme will focus on the events of 9/11 and the 2001 New York terrorist attacks. We will use this as a foundation to help pupils develop an age-appropriate understanding of terrorism, its impact on individuals, families, and communities, and the vital importance of remembrance.

To build a local connection, pupils will also explore the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing and its impact on families in the North East. In particular, they will learn about Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry from South Shields, who tragically lost their lives in the attack. Pupils will discover how their families transformed their heartbreak into a force for good by establishing the Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust.

Mentor Task: Pupils will complete a poster using the attached template to promote a positive message of hope and unity.
