English at Park View

At Park View, our English curriculum is designed to help every student become a confident reader, writer and communicator. Over five years, pupils explore a wide range of books, poems and real‑world texts while developing the skills they need for GCSE and life beyond school. Lessons also link closely with personal development themes such as relationships, equality, culture and British values.

🌱 Year 7 – Foundations

What students read: Modern novels, newspaper articles, blogs, poetry.

What students learn:

📚 Year 8 – Growing Skills

What students read: Stories about identity & culture, reports, diaries, web pages.

What students learn:

  • Persuasive & emotive writing
  • Information texts & descriptive writing
  • Linking ideas and using evidence

Themes explored: Equality • Racism • Immigration • Ethics

🧠 Year 9 – GCSE Preparation

What students read: War & crime fiction, non‑fiction texts, Shakespeare stories.
