Science at Park View

Our Science curriculum is designed to help students understand the world around them through practical investigation, hands‑on learning and clear, structured progression. Over five years, pupils build strong foundations in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, before moving into the most suitable KS4 pathway for their needs.

🌱 Year 7 – Exploring the Basics

Students begin by developing confidence with equipment, simple experiments and scientific vocabulary.

What they study:

  • Humans
  • Basic laboratory skills
  • Food and digestion
  • Light and sound
  • Plants and habitats
  • Materials

What this means for your child: They learn how their bodies work, how plants survive, how light and sound behave, and how different materials can be used and changed.

🌿 Year 8 – Building Understanding

Students deepen their knowledge of how living things, materials and physical processes interact.

What they study:

  • Forces and magnets
  • Evolution and adaptation
  • States of matter
  • Properties and changes of materials
  • Energy and electricity
  • Heart and circulation
  • Earth and space

What this means for your child: They explore how forces affect movement, how species adapt, how materials behave, how electricity works, and how the Earth fits into the wider universe.

🌼 Year 9 – Preparing for KS4 (Entry Level or GCSE)

Year 9 bridges the gap between KS3 and KS4, introducing more structured scientific thinking.

What they study:

  • The human body
  • Elements, mixtures and compounds

What this means for your child: They revisit key ideas in more depth, preparing them for either Entry Level Science or GCSE Science in Year 10.

🔧 Year 10 – KS4 Pathways Begin (Entry Level or GCSE)

Students follow the pathway best suited to their learning needs.

Topics covered:

  • Electricity, magnetism and waves
  • Environment, evolution and inheritance

What this means for your child: They begin to explore more complex scientific ideas, either through practical Entry Level units or the more academic GCSE route.

Year 11 – Completing KS4 (Entry Level or GCSE)

Students consolidate their learning and prepare for their final assessments.

Topics covered:

  • Chemistry in our world
  • Energy, forces and the structure of matter

What this means for your child: They learn how science applies to real‑world issues, from materials and reactions to energy and forces.

Our Aim

By the end of Year 11, students will:

  • Understand key scientific ideas across Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • Use scientific equipment safely and confidently
  • Apply scientific thinking to real‑life situations
  • Be ready for the next step — GCSE, BTEC, Entry Level, college or a technical pathway
